CrossFit Awaken is a premier fitness facility built for the people and community. Everyone is welcome at CrossFit Awaken. We offer an environment that supports your goal to become fit and healthy.

 

WHAT EXACTLY IS CROSSFIT?

 

CrossFit is one of the best fitness programs you will find. CrossFit training focuses on a variety of fitness disciplines which together will take your fitness to a level you can never achieve by focusing on one discipline alone. In the words of Crossfit’s founding Father:

 

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.

CROSSFIT AWAKEN SOUNDS GREAT, BUT HOW DO I WORKOUT LIKE THAT?

 

The beauty of CrossFit is the training and programming is prepared and taught by one of our highly qualified and certified trainers, all in a group setting. Crossfit Awaken will provide you with all of the information you need to be successful. Nutrition tips, recommendations on scheduling time for training that works with your life, proper equipment and gear, etc. All of that is included in your membership, and we even offer private training and nutrition consultation for those looking to have a personal plan tailored for them!

 

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL CLASS SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE?

 

Classes are one hour long, but we do recommend you arrive 10 minutes before class to do some light work to get ready for the class. Each day you show up to a new carefully programmed “WOD” or “Workout of the Day.” The workouts are programmed that develop each athlete over time. Class starts with some dynamic stretching, then we move into a warm up exercise, follow that up with a skill and/or strength portion, and then we jump into the workout, as a group! The dynamic stretching, warm up, and skill are all programmed to support the WOD for that day. After we promote some additional dynamic stretching and mobility work. We keep track of your performance on each WOD so that you can see your progress over time.

 

I HAVE HEARD CROSSFIT IS REALLY TOUGH. IS IT ONLY FOR HARD CORE ATHLETES?

 

No way! The fundamental structure of CrossFit lends itself to the development of all ages and ranges of athletic capability. CrossFit is as hard as you make it. We will encourage you to push yourself in the workouts and develop your athletic capability as time progresses. CrossFit is intended to be intense, but our trainers know each client personally and adjust the workout to meet you where you are at right now. Do not be intimidated by CrossFit!

 

DO I HAVE TO GET IN SHAPE FIRST BEFORE I START?

 

No! CrossFit Awaken meets you where you are at physically. You will perform the same WOD as everyone else, but your portion can be scaled as needed. Scaled means the coackes make personal adjustments for you while still allowing you to complete the workout. For example, new members may work out in a class with a few athletes that have been doing Crossfit for years. If those athletes are doing pull ups and you can’t, we have modifications so you can! The ability of our coaching staff to meet you where you are at and scale the workout to benefit you is something CrossFit Awaken takes very seriously.

 

I HAVE SOME NAGGING INJURIES, CAN I STILL DO CROSSFIT?

 

Numerous clients have come through the doors with previous injuries or tweaks and found relief from the pain by improving their mobility (flexibility) and strengthening the muscles around the problem area. For example, A lot of people neglect exercising their lower back because they have occasional back pain. Quite often this is a result of a weak muscle support system in your back, not doing anything to improve your muscle system only makes the situation worse. The coaches will speak with you about your injuries, pain points, etc when you start and scale your workouts as needed. We recommend consulting your physician prior to joining CrossFit Awaken if you have major concerns about your injuries.

 

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS WHEN PROGRAMMING YOUR WORKOUTS FOR THE GYM?

 

At Crossfit Awaken, we choose to offer workouts that can be scaled in group settings and address the needs/desires of our community. You are guaranteed to have at least one day/week of heavy load to help address strength demands. We also like to provide people with a longer workout each week so they can get their “endurance” needs fed. Our general philosophy is the same as Crossfit HQ: constantly varied, functional movement at high intensity. We just try to listen carefully to our community and meet their unique and specific needs as much as possible.

 

WILL I GET TOO BIG AND BULKY?

 

In order for people to get bigger, especially women, there are two things that must happen. One: pick up very heavy weight on a frequent basis. This is not something we do. However, strength building is an important part of our programming and we do lift heavy on some days. Strength building supports the overall programming and desired results of CrossFit. Two: eat an extremely high calorie diet. This is also something that we do not focus on. From a nutritional standpoint, our focus is simply on the quality of the foods we eat, not the amount. CrossFit Awaken follows the principles of the Paleo diet. Our clients that dedicate themselves to attending class consistently and eat a clean diet will see improved muscle tone and definition.

 

PEOPLE HAVE SAID YOU CAN GET INJURED DOING CROSSFIT, SHOULD I BE CONCERNED?

 

You can injure yourself doing just about anything, but CrossFit is safer than many activities people perform every day. The myth of rampant injuries in Crossfit are simply not true. Your muscles will be sore, especially when your new, but this is not an injury. That is a result of working muscle groups that haven’t been worked before or in a long time. Crossfit Awaken will take you through foundation classes that focus on teaching you proper technique before you jump into our regular class program (does not apply to CrossFit lite). The initial focus on technique and constant coaching on technique help prevent injuries from occurring.
