How Long have you been a coach at  CrossFit Awaken?

2 years, when Awaken started the Lite classes.

How long have you been a die hard CrossFitter?

6 or 7 years???  (time flies)

What inspired you to become a CrossFit coach?

I enjoy encouraging others.  The look on people's faces when they've accomplished something new is very rewarding.

What has been your best coaching experience so far?

Each time I coach and an athlete has the complete look of determination  during a class (warm up, skill, or WOD), then after a complete look of satisfaction on their accomplishment for the day.

Tell us about the community at CrossFit Awaken

Our Crossfit community is like a family.  We strive to be friendly and welcoming to whomever walks through the door.  Everyone supports, encourages, and praises each other for their hard work and dedication.

What’s the most common mistakes you see among new athletes at your affiliate?

The most common mistake I see is not asking questions/clarifications and pushing too hard too fast.  As coaches, we strive to explain all the movements and acronyms during each class.  Sometimes we forget because we have been doing the movements or using the terminology for so long.  If I don't explain something, please ask me.  I'm a teacher/coach and it's my job!  Some athletes have been Crossfitting for years, some athletes haven't worked out in 3 years, and some athletes have never worked out.  It's hard not to compare yourself with others, but understanding where you're at is what new athletes should focus on.  Everyone has used modifications (heck I'm STILL using them).  They're not a bad thing, but a way to help you get stronger so you can perform a movement RX.

If you could give someone new to CrossFit just one piece of advice, what would it be?

Enjoy the community at the box and WODs!  If you don't enjoy it, don't do it.  Find something that fits your life and you enjoy: hiking, swimming, yoga, etc.  Crossfit isn't for everyone.  Although we are a box of friendly and kind faces, we like to listen to loud music, slam weight, make crazy faces and noises, and fall to the floor exhausted when we are finished.... BUT we come back day after day and enjoy every minute of it.

Would you share with us your favorite tip or cue that we might find useful to use in our training?

If you don't know something ASK!!   I still ask the coach, "How does my snatch look?"---little Crossfit humor there ;)  I'm always seeking advice whether it be on my form, technique, or how should I pace myself in the WOD, etc.  ASK.  ASK.  ASK.

Do you have any success stories among your athletes you’d like to share?

One definition of success is, "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose."  Everyday an athlete completes a WOD is a success story.

If ‘Kim Bridgman’ was a WOD, what would it be?

Something with cardio and gymnastics

What’s your biggest goal and what are you doing about it?

Muscle Ups..... I'm getting in the mindset to start a weekly strength program to help me achieve both bar and ring muscle ups.

What is your favorite Cheat Meal?

Hmmmmm-- double bacon burger and truffle fries

What is your favorite movement?

HSPU

What is your favorite thing to WOD in?

Lululemon speed shorts and lululemon energy bra
